Maintaining

How to Maintain Your New Sod!

Mowing
Once the sod grass has been laid it should not be mowed for 2 or 3 weeks or until the root system has established. Mow between one and one-half inch to two inches high. Always use a sharp mower blade. The grass should be mowed on a weekly basis in order to keep weeds from taking over the lawn.

Fertilizing
After the root system is established the lawn can be fertilized with a fertilizer that is for use on centipede grass. Apply between one and two pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet. Be careful not to fertilize to soon, in order to avoid burning the grass. (Do not fertilize centipede after July 15th).

Watering
Centipede sod requires deep watering. Do not water in the heat of the day or over water. Avoid standing water for any length of time which promotes weed growth. The soil below the sod should be kept moist for three or four inches.

Thatching
Thatch your sod in the late winter to removed grass clippings and leaves.
